Roots Ahead is back this afternoon with an extended 2-hour show featuring a very special guest! I'm thrilled to be hosting Ethan Spigland a.k.a. DJ Canterel, New York–based DJ and filmmaker and the co-host of the weekly radio show Paradise of Replica on East Village Radio.
As a DJ, he blends global rhythms, ’80s synthpop, and avant-garde obscurities, finding strange connections between sounds that shouldn’t work together—but somehow do. Each set is a journey into the unfamiliar, celebrating the beautiful chaos that unfolds when genres and cultures collide.
I met Ethan last week while working at the record shop, as he was on the hunt of some hard-to-find Portuguese experimental and prog records... I'm grateful that he accepted my last minute invitation and very much looking forward to play some music together and have a little chat about his work, music and everything in between.
