Roots Ahead w/ Rodrigo Brandão
For this episode I had the huge pleasure of hosting spoken word artist, poet, rapper and producer Rodrigo Brandão. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, and now living in Lisbon for the past 5 years, Rodrigo brings over 20+ years of career, boasting dozens of releases and collaborations with giants such as The Sun Ra Arkestra, Ivan Conti (Azymuth), Brian Jackson and many more. On stage, he’s a force of nature, weaving words into powerful poems about the beauty and crudeness of everyday life while delivering honest, deeply spiritual teachings.
We dove into and chatted about some of Rodrigo's discography, as well as some of his main musical references, playing old and new music and touching themes as wide as his relationship with some music legends he collaborated with, the intersection of music and politics, the Yoruba religion and the creative process behind his own work.
